IDx is not 510, its 610...

While the 510 definitely has more following than the 610, just look at the 510, 610 and IDx side by side and you tell me which one looks more like which one

some other sites have been crucifying IDx for being more 610 than 510, but I don't care, I actually think the 610 styling translates to modern much better than the boxy 510...

I see what you're saying here man. And I do agree that the styling is definitely more 610 than 510, especially from the rear...

but then again there is this...

Someone correct me if im wrong but wasn't it datsun or even toyota that took inspiration from the mustang for their own sports coupe? And it was styled similar. The 610 seems to be sort of like it.

I see similarities there as well especially the side profile. The arched rear quarter panel and even the shape of the little passenger window follows the same line. Just smaller.

I see similarities with all of these. While the 510 and 610 are both cool cars, I think that the 610 translates to modern design a bit better than the 510. Like someone could ride around in the 610 and it would be seen as a beautiful classic. The 510 would still look nice today, but it doesn't look quite as sporty and contemporary.

i also see how they have some similar design cues, but with a lot of cars these days this is the case.

Keep in mind the 610 was an evolution of the 510, they were sold side by side for a year or two as the 510 was transitioned out... 510 debuted in 67, 610 debuted in 71, quite alot of change happened to design principles in between those years...
