Another Dead Nissan...

It's been hard for Nissan fans the last little bit. First it was announced that the iDx is likely dead, then Nissan limped home at LeMans without an official classification. Now news comes that the entire GT-R LM World Endurance Program has been put on hiatus.

Nissan cited multiple technical issues, mainly an inability for the P1 car to run with its hybrid Energy Recovery System (ERS), which left it short some 400 horsepower at La Sarthe.

Instead Nissan will return to private testing, hoping to shake the gremlins loose. “We know people will be disappointed but be assured that nobody is more disappointed than us,” said Shoichi Miyatani, President of NISMO.

We are racers and we want to compete but we also want to be competitive. That is why we have chosen to continue our test programme and prepare the GT-R LM NISMO for the strong competition we face in the World Endurance Championship.

“When you innovate you don’t give up at the first hurdle. We are committed to overcoming this challenge.”

Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, NISMO, went on to add “We’ve built an LMP1 car that is very different to other racing cars as we continue to drive motorsport innovation.

“The beauty of this program is that people have got behind us and they are willing us to succeed.

“This has shown us once again that people want something different in motorsport and that gives us increased motivation to make our LMP1 car competitive.”

A revised GT-R LM was brought to Circuit of the Americas in July but continued to lack pace wise, although they did resolve the balance issues that had previously forced them to stay off the kerbs.

Looks like they should take note from other brands that keep things under wraps till it's officially a go. But while we're not getting the iDX, a smaller Z-Car that we're rumored to have could have the iDX live on to some degree in it.

I remember reading up on that and sure seems like the best direction for the current Z to head into, especially during a time where they need more fuel efficiency and better performance.
